2020 and 2021 have been distinctly marked by the lack of travel and prevalence of remote working, which now defines the future workplace for many companies all over the world.
Now that vaccinations are ramping up, border measures are starting to ease and the full return of travel is truly on the horizon as wanderlust hits an all-time high. Now is the time for businesses looking to stick with these proven-to-work fully remote or hybrid structures to consider planning their first-ever corporate retreat to bring remote workforces together.
As corporate travel experts and planners, myself and the team here at Moniker have been inundated in recent months, receiving the most travel inquiries since pre-pandemic from companies across the globe either keen to return to their annual team off-site or looking to book a trip as a way to bring employees together face to face.
Corporate retreats are an integral part of positive culture building and a fan-favorite work perk, and this has only been heightened by working from home. We are all keen to get back to a sense of adventure, so we have made it easy by creating a guide to the top destinations to host your 2022 company retreat and protocols to consider when planning.
A note on safety:
Also consider quarantining or vaccination proof requirements, in both your destination country and in your own country for when you return, to ensure your team has a hassle-free travel experience.
Whether with your actual family or your work family, Mexico is one of those destinations that never disappoints. From white sandy beaches to the adventure, food, and ancient architecture, it is a recipe for an unforgettable company retreat.
Some of our favorite things to do are exploring the cultural hubs of Oaxaca City and Guanajuato. Or, head to Sierra Norte for hiking, biking, or horseback riding through beautiful mountainous landscapes. Enjoy a food tour in Mexico City, or party it up and explore turquoise water cenotes in the beautiful Tulum.
When it comes to visiting the United States, there is something for everyone. After all, there are fifty of them, each with their own style and flavor.
If you’re craving adventure, try taking your employees out glamping at some of our favorite spots like Paws Up or Dunton Hot Springs.
If the wilderness isn’t for you and your team, try roaming the cityscapes of San Francisco, get a taste of Hattie B’s famous hot chicken in Nashville, or hop on a riverboat for a tour of the bayou in New Orleans. For fun in the sun, Hawaii is just the ticket to meet all your beach relaxation, water sport, and sailing needs.
The USA is huge, so if you need help narrowing down a destination that will suit the whole teams’ preferences, you should start with picking your perfect place to stay, and then plan from there.
Some of our favorites include a resort near but out of the hustle and bustle of New York City, or if you want something a little warmer, the Bay Area has a lot to offer from vineyards to water sports.
The Dominican Republic
Many don’t know that the Dominican Republic is the most geographically diverse country in the Caribbean.
We all know there is no shortage of beautiful beaches, turquoise waters, and Piña Coladas in the Dominican Republic, but here are some ideas to amp it up a notch. Go canyoning and rappel down 150 foot high waterfalls near Puerto Plata. Try snorkeling and discover a vibrant underwater world in Cayo Arena. Or, zipline to your heart’s content in one of Punta Cana’s adventure parks. These unique activities are sure to bring people together and make memories your entire company can share.
A good company retreat requires balance, and Costa Rica boasts both wild adventure and relaxing wellness activities to do just that. Not to mention the beautiful landscapes of Guanacaste – straddling both beaches and rainforest.
Many people find that there are too many things to do in Costa Rica. Some of our favorites include hiking through the lush rainforest of Arenal Volcano National Park, visiting a waterfall, taking a dip in the hot springs, and marveling at an impressive volcano.
Or, have your employees bond over catching some waves at a surfing session in Tamarindo Beach. Find your inner zen with a chill day of yoga and a spa visit. Or, supercharge your trip with ATVing, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, ziplining, and more. Whatever you’re looking for, Costa Rica is sure to have it in spades.
A corporate retreat is already pretty amazing, but make it a trip to a Caribbean paradise and you’ve got a recipe for success.
There’s no shortage of activities to fill your days in Puerto Rico. Try snorkeling through the turquoise waters of La Cordillera Nature Reserve, or surfing the waves at one of Puerto Rico’s many beaches. Hike through the tropical rainforest of El Yunque and visit magical waterfalls. Sample the Caribbean’s most popular spirit on the Casa Bacardi rum tour, or eat your heart out with a food tour of San Juan.
Finally, make this the most memorable corporate retreat ever by taking your employees to one of Puerto Rico’s bioluminescent bays to see the plankton light up the water around you like stars in the night! It truly is a bucket-list experience.
Planning a trip of the size and scale for your entire business or team takes a lot of time and organization. You can call in the experts like award-winning corporate culture and travel agency, Moniker, who will do the hard work for you.
